This morning, I came across a list of websites for kids/beginners in development and more particularly .NET development.
I haven’t looked much at any of them, but they look quite appealing and definitely worth mentioning !
- Microsoft Small Basic
- Microsoft Kid’s Corner Beginner Developer Learning Center
- Microsoft Kodu Game Lab
Microsoft Small Basic puts the fun back into computer programming. With a friendly development environment that is very easy to master, it eases students of all ages into the world of programming.
The Beginner Developer Learning Center provides a curriculum that you can use to learn Small Basic with separate lessons, and lots of sample code, Small Basic eases students of all ages into the world of programming.
It targets:
- Windows Development
- Web Development
- Windows Phone Development
- Windows Azure Development
Kodu lets kids create games on the PC and XBox via a simple visual programming language. Kodu can be used to teach creativity, problem solving, storytelling, as well as programming. Anyone can use Kodu to make a game, young children as well as adults with no design or programming skills.
I’m quite impressed by the quality of these websites and knowing that all tools are free to download and use (Visual Studio Express) that makes them even better 😉
Anyway my kids are not ready for this yet…
